The EPNS Scientific and Research Committee, together with the Young EPNS (YEPNS), host the EPNS Journal Club—a series of interactive webinars focused on discussing recent publications of key interest to child neurologists.
Sessions take place on the fourth Wednesday of every other month at 17:00 CET and provide an opportunity for participants to explore and critically discuss important research in the field.
Each Journal Club session is broadcast live via the Zoom Webinar platform and lasts approximately 40–60 minutes.
The webinars are designed to be informative, practical, and interactive, helping participants develop the skills and approaches needed to understand, analyse, and critically appraise the latest scientific publications in child neurology.
Participation is free and open to both EPNS members and non-members, and colleagues from across the community are warmly invited to attend.
We look forward to welcoming you to an upcoming session.

Topic: KIF1A-Associated Neurological Disorder (KAND): Spectrum of Movement and Motor Disorders in a Cohort of 51 Patients
Description:
During the Journal Club we will discuss about the broad spectrum of KIF1A-Associated Neurological Disorder (KAND), taking into consideration genotype to phenotype analysis and focusing in motor and movement disorders in light of the recently published cohort study by Bernardi et al.. KAND emcompasses neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative features for almost all patients, however, a wide range of severity and accompanning signs and symptoms are also to be seen. Infantile hypotonia, lower extremity weakness and spasticity are important motor symptoms that have up to now not been systematically characterised. The lack of a disease-modifying therapy urges for a better disease definition for optimal prognosis and management. The study analysed 51 patients, 42 of which were pediatric patients, and comphrehensively characterized motor and movement disorder phenotypes in the cohort, shaping clinical management, genetic counseling, and helping the design of future clinical trials.
