Topic: Pattern recognition of pediatric movement disorders

Description:

Pediatric movement disorders comprise a heterogenous group of symptoms that are associated with a large number of neurological diseases. They can be isolated symptoms, or present as combined or complex movement disorders. The etiology is broad, including acquired and inherited causes. The genetic spectrum constantly increases with the introduction of next generation sequencing techniques. Still, there is not always a genotype-phenotype correlation. Therefore, defining a movement disorder and disentangling the different components of a complex movement disorder, identifying the underlying etiology and choosing the right treatment in a child can be very challenging. This lecture should provide an overview of a systematic approach to a child with a movement disorder, focussing on the phenomenology.
