It is a great pleasure and honour for me to accept the position of President of the EPNS for a further 4 years (2014-2018). It is without doubt that the last 4 years have been very rewarding, worthwhile and extremely enjoyable. Our EPNS has continued to grow; in the last 4 years we welcomed 422 new members to our Society. Thank you for your confidence!
I am looking forward to the next 4 years, and I have to tell you that we have some exciting new projects in the pipeline, whilst at the same time we continue to focus on hosting the high level of training courses (please click on the 'Education and Training' tab for more information), scientific congresses and research meetings. Our next research meeting will be taking place on 12-13 September 2014 in Bucharest, Romania.
I must say a fond farewell and sincere thank you to the following members of the previous Board who have taken the decision to leave this term: Patrick Berquin, Paolo Curatolo, Colin Kennedy, Ingelborg Kraegeloh-Mann, Richard Newton, Lars Palm and Bernhard Schmitt. Together they have accumulated many loyal years of service working for the EPNS Board and their contribution and enthusiasm will be greatly missed.
Secondly I would like to welcome the new Board (please click on the 'home' tab, then 'board members' for more information), who will be serving over the next 4 years. We also co-opted 4 new Board members from “under-represented” European regions - Katalin Hollody (Hungary), Alla Nechay (Ukraine), Biayna Sukhudyan (Armenia) and Dimitrios Zafeiriou (Greece). This already shows our willingness to reach out for new members in all parts of Europe; with only one goal: to further develop paediatric neurology, to give training and education to our younger colleagues at the highest level and to start new scientific collaborations throughout Europe.
See you soon at one of our meetings!
Lieven Lagae, President EPNS
