Background

The EPNS has a programme of training courses to offer fellows and (young) paediatric neurologists the opportunity to learn paediatric neurology at a level prescribed by the Syllabus of the EPNS, to meet experts in the field and to exchange knowledge and personal experience. These are two-day courses at a location that can be easily reached at a relatively low cost.

There will be a written examination at the end of the course. Because of the interactive character of the course, there is an upper limit of around 75 participants. The style of teaching will combine lectures, workshops and interactive sessions. A short list of reading material such as review papers will be sent to the participants a few weeks before the course.

The first series of six courses (2003-2008) were held on different locations throughout Europe and were often combined with international meetings such as the EPNS or EACD congress.

The second series (2009-2011) was held on a stand-alone basis on a fixed location in Romania (Cheile Gradistei, local organiser: Dana Craiu)) with two separate courses back to back in one week.

The third series (2012-2014) followed the same principles and was held in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina, local organiser: Smail Zubcevic). We expect that all training courses from the second series onwards will be accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME).

Our fourth series (2015-2017) was held in Budapest (Hungary, local organiser: Katalin Hollody). These courses were accredited by the European Accreditation Council and designated for a maximum of (or ‘for up to’) 24 hours of European external CME credits.

Our fifth series (2018-2020) will continue to follow our now established pattern and will be held in Alicante (Spain, local organiser: Francisco Carratala).

Funding

Courses and bursaries are funded from the fees paid by participants, any surplus from the EPNS biennial Congress and by sponsors. The EPNS also provides a guarantee.

Bursaries

EPNS offers a limited number of bursaries to participants from certain European countries (income class 1 and 2 of the World Bank) for each training course, which will fully cover both the course fee and accommodation costs (hotel, meals). The bursaries will not cover travel costs.
